Ever Wondered How Corals Grow? Come to the Saturday Seminar with Brooke and find out.
Brooke has been a part of SCUBAnauts International for almost 4 years and a Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium volunteer for over a year. She is American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) certified, with over 400 hours of scientific diving work. And has over 350 hours of volunteering in the Coral Health and Disease Lab, as an aquarium guide and working with the staff to do a coral growth study. The study was at Mote with Doctor Sara Williams, her lead mentor, for her Masternaut project, (the equivalent to an Eagle Scout project for Boy Scouts). This project studied 80 corals in an offshore nursery and 80 in an onshore lab. She took standardized photos on two different dates 3 months apart, sorted the photos into folders and then did multiple analyses to track their growth. This fall she is attending Nova Southeastern University in the Farquhar Honors Program while obtaining a major in marine biology and a minor in chemistry. Brooke looks forward to sharing all that she has learned with you!
