The Magic of Diving - Think About it...

1) YOU ARE NOW FREE TO MOVE ABOUT THE OCEAN

Remember when you were a child and you dreamed of stepping on the moon? Maybe you wanted to be in inventor? An artist? And what about the meteorologist? And a marine biologist? Conservationist?

Never forget that beneath each wave, you have the opportunity to explore beyond boundaries that you now take for granted.  You have the privilege to explore places in the ocean that most will never see in their lifetime.  You can express your creativity through underwater photography or learn to identify fish from around the globe.  You plan your dives according to weather forecasts, marine buoys, and climate observations.  You can endlessly search for tiny critters or massive pelagics and help conservation efforts worldwide.

You ARE an explorer. An inventor. An artist. And a biologist. A diver.

2) WEIGHTLESSNESS

Say it three times fast and it may lose all meaning...

However, we should never forget to stop and think about how fortunate we are to be able to lose gravity for a few hours.  The physics above water cease to apply to us diving beneath the surface. That is something truly special.  Enough said.

4) PASSING IT ON

You may not be a dive instructor.  You may not be a certified professional or guide...

BUT- You are an important representative of the underwater world.  Less than 2% of people in America are certified divers and that number is even less worldwide.

You have the ability to teach others about what you've learned, what you've seen, and what you hope to understand about the ocean.  It is up to you to help carve a positive change for the ocean. We should be thankful to be included in the 2% that knows what its like to breathe underwater...

5) MEETING NEW FRIENDS

Diving is a sport that affords many opportunities to meet new people.  You can join local meetup groups and dive clubs that expand your horizons.  Everyone needs a buddy and having one underwater is essential.

6) FORGET ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS

Underwater, we have the ability to , "zen out" and forget about our problems for a while.  There are no cell phones ringing.  There are no traffic jams.  No supermarket lines.  Nobody is yelling.  It is just you and your thoughts...

In a world of silence you can just think and be yourself.

7) OPEN THE DOOR TO THE PAST

There is nothing like diving a historical wreck or famous dive site.  We have the opportunity to experience things frozen in time that could never be replicated on land.  From WWII shipwrecks to underwater archeological sites- there is something for everyone.

The next time you dive- stop and look around.  Think about your breathing.  Your equipment.

Your training.  Who you are.  How you got there.

Be grateful you are a diver.
