Too Old? Not you…your dive computer!

We upgrade our cell phones, TV's and other electronics regularly but hang on to our 15-year-old dive computer. Wouldn't you enjoy faster, more accurate and efficient performance? Sharper, brighter screens, larger numbers and be more intuitive to use?
New technology has improved processing power, battery life, sensor sensitivity, display screens and offers stylish form factor options. Older dive computers are often not able to fully implement decompression algorithms. A modern computer, in most cases, is more powerful and better able to compute a more faithful rendition of the underlying algorithm. Modern sensors can detect even slight changes in pressure and register changes to water temperature in a tenth of the time it takes older dive computers.
Many manufacturers will factory test dive computers for accuracy. If your dive computer is 10 years old or older or has made 1,000 or more dives, Divers Alert Network recommends that it be tested for accuracy. Years of diving can take their toll on computers in terms of wear and tear, exposure to sun and saltwater, being dropped and other neglect.
